In this section of our “Knowers and Learners” workshop, Dan Seewald walks participants through his “Killer Assumptions” exercise.
To start the exercise, participants must list assumptions that must be true in order for an idea to be successful.
Then, they narrow down assumptions and pass those with the greatest impact through the funnel. What will kill the idea? What could shut down the project?
Next, determine how uncertain or certain the group is of that outcome. The uncertain outcomes that are left are the killer assumptions. These assumptions should be tested and studied through experiments — otherwise they may end the project.
Watch the video and run through the exercise alone or with colleagues.
