Top 10 AI Tools Being Used by Innovation and R&D Professionals: March 2025 Data

With 105 qualified responses, here’s what we’re seeing from innovation and R&D professionals in March 2025. The question we asked: “Which AI tools are you consistently using as part of innovation-related activities (partnerships, scouting, product development, prototypes, experiments)?”

The top six responses were all “general purpose” generative AI platforms, except for Perplexity, which is more search/research focused. The top ten tools mentioned were:

  1. OpenAI / ChatGPT
  2. Microsoft Copilot
  3. Perplexity
  4. Anthropic / Claude
  5. Custom-developed internal tool (using ChatGPT, open source LLMs, Google Foundation, etc.)
  6. Google Gemini
  7. Google’s NotebookLM (for querying documents and creating podcasts to summarize them)
  8. GitHub Copilot (for coding)
  9. Jasper (marketing tools)
  10. Scopus.ai, Synthesia, Writer (tie)

In terms of the impact of these tools on individuals and teams, 47 percent of our survey respondents described it as “very positive,” and 46 percent as “somewhat positive.”
