Developed for use by Ned Uber III while at Bayer, this 33-slide PPT and related video tackle the question of innovating over the long-term, with lots of concrete examples, and references to the approaches of Thomas Edison, Clayton Christensen, and Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, among others. Includes definitions of innovation and invention, discussions of the virtuous spiral, and explanations of the “summiting” approach to innovation compared to the “spelunking” approach. Uber was a Bayer Distinguished Science Fellow who retired in 2024.
