Video and slides from an August 2024 InnoLead members’ meeting on artificial intelligence, led by Michael Hayes of PracticalAI. Hayes has been CEO of FeatureX (a computer vision AI startup); Managing Director of global AI Engagement at Ernst & Young; CEO of an internal geospatial analytics company at British Telecom; and COO and Head of AI Strategy of an AI-powered home robotics company.
The 90-minute meeting was divided into three portions:
- AI Fundamentals – An introduction to machine learning, deep learning, training models to make predictions, risks and limitations of AI, etc.
- State of the Art – Greater details on Generative AI, large language models, “generative pre-trained transformers,” prompt engineering, AI agents, optimization (i.e., “retrieval augmented generation”), and more.
- Moving forward with AI – Thinking strategically about AI: Identifying high-value AI use cases, when not to use AI, prioritizing proof-of-concept experiments, addressing employee concerns, and more.
“[Google CEO] Sundar Pichai has one of the best definitions of AI: software that learns and adapts,” Hayes said. “When you hear AI, you should think machine learning… Software that can be incredibly powerful, because unlike the software that’s come before it, you don’t have to tell it exactly what to do. It can learn. This is what changed everything starting in about 2010.”
