As part of our most recent Impact conference in New York, we put together an innovation movie night — and asked the InnoLead community to nominate their favorite movie scenes that best capture the highs and lows of the innovation process. The suggestions came from all across the board — from action movies, to comedies, to animated movies, and more.

Here are 10 clips we showed…

“Sure, we haven’t worked out how to corner yet. Or stay cool. Or stay on the ground. And a lot of stuff broke. In fact, the only thing that didn’t break was the brakes.” — Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby in Ford Vs. Ferrari.

“OK people, listen up. The people upstairs have handed us this one, and we’ve got to come through. We’ve got to find a way to make this fit into the hole for this, using nothing but that.” — Apollo 13

How do you blend people’s gut instincts, biases, and years of experience with data?

The best insights can sometimes come from surprising sources…

“All I’m asking is for you to have just the tiniest bit of vision… to take a chance on something. I spent the last 13 months coming into rooms like this and talking to people like you. The truth is, you’re my last chance.” — Jodie Foster in Contact

“I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it.” — Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly in Back to the Future

Sometimes, innovation is about saving money, speeding up operations — and a persuasive demo.

Another Michael Keaton moment, from the 1980s comedy Night Shift.

Innovators need to be unstoppable.

Even when you attain greatness, there’s always a critic…
